Android 13 is already in beta on devices from Samsung, OnePlus, and other manufacturers, and it has been available for over a week on Pixel phones. We now have a release date for Android 13 for the Nothing Phone (1), but it is not immediately approaching.

The Nothing Phone (1), the first smartphone to come from Carl Peis’ firm, was released earlier this year. Unsurprisingly, there was a lot of buzz surrounding a new smartphone from the co-founder of OnePlus, and initial reviews were mostly favorable. Nothing advertises the device’s distinctive appearance, glyph illumination interface, and strong software as its main selling points.

The Nothing Phone (1)’s update committment, however, isn’t exactly the best. Three years of significant Android updates and four years of bimonthly security updates are guaranteed for the smartphone. In contrast, Google provides its most recent Pixels with three years of major Android updates and five years of monthly security patches, while Samsung provides its Galaxy smartphones with four years of significant Android updates.

Carl Pei simply said that it doesn’t matter when questioned about the Android 13 release date for the Nothing Phone (1) last week. He didn’t provide any valuable information.

There is more to a product than its specifications, features, and version numbers.
C. I. Pei

Now, no timeline has been verified. According to Nothing, the Nothing Phone (1) won’t receive the Android 13 upgrade until the first half of 2023, which is at least four months away from availability.

The user experience on Phone 1 is something we always strive to enhance. Operating system upgrades will be regularly made available for download in order to guarantee this. The first half of 2023 will see the release of Android 13 for customers of the Phone 1. We want to fine-tune the software upgrade with Nothings hardware before it is released. We’ll be sure to keep you informed when new details become available.

This timetable is somewhat unexpected for a skin that is so close to stock. Given that Samsung is anticipated to issue its first stable Android 13 updates as early as October or November, it is especially difficult to understand what is taking so long. By the end of the year, even OnePlus, with its less than optimal turnaround, will probably have released a few Android 13 updates.
