The latest installment in the Madden franchise has received some of its initial details from Electronic Arts, but there are conflicting rumors about whether or not Madden NFL 23 will be available on Stadia.

Update: It is now official that Madden NFL 23 won’t be coming to Stadia.

Madden is one of the main franchises that gamers expect, so when Stadia acquired Madden NFL 21 back in 2021—although months later than other platforms—it was a big deal for the streaming service. It also made Madden NFL available to individuals without a game system, on the other hand.

Later that year, everything remained the same as Madden NFL 22 launched day-and-date on Stadia alongside other significant gaming platforms. Stadia seemed to be a lock for Madden in the future with that more timely introduction.

The new Field Sense (or Field SENSE, as they stylize it) system, which is only available on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, provides more realistic gameplay and results, was announced by Electronic Arts today. A good number of additional elements, like Franchise Mode and Madden Ultimate Team, have been improved.

However, Stadia is conspicuously absent from the list of platforms that football fans can expect Madden NFL 23 to launch on in the press release from Cloud Gaming Xtreme, as noted by Duncan .

A worldwide release date of August 19 has been set for Madden NFL 23, which is being developed in Orlando, Florida and Madrid, Spain by EA Tiburon, for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC via the EA app for Windows, Origin, Steam, and Epic Games Store.

Although this initially appears to be a poor omen for the game’s possible Stadia release, our own Dylan Roussel discovered that when sharing the pre-order link for Madden NFL 23 (via Slack, for instance, as seen below), there is a clear mention of Stadia in the link description.

Update: An Electronic Arts spokesman has confirmed to 9to5Google that Madden NFL 23 will not be released on Stadia. The game might eventually come to Stadia, which would be the best case scenario for football lovers, but right now this is a major setback for the platform and cloud gamers.

Many people had thought that this was just another instance of “logogate,” a phenomenon when a new Stadia game has the Stadia logo removed from its official promotion. Or, rather than being completely abandoned, it’s possible that Madden NFL 23 Stadia port plans have been postponed.

Before initial publishing, we contacted EA and Google for confirmation, but neither company responded.
