With Chrome 103 for Android, the built-in saved credentials list of the browser is replaced with Android’s default solution, adding to the recent flurry of Google Password Manager news.
Opening Settings in Chrome 103 for Android exposes a new Password Manager menu item that takes the place of Passwords. The Google Play Services-powered experience that is currently open is opened by tapping. Alternatively, a homescreen shortcut that employs a four-color key symbol is being rolled out. This will open in a separate window, and while it’s open, you are free to browse the internet.
The user interface is comparable to that on the passwords.google.com website, and there is a card to start a Password Checkup. A list of your account’s saved credentials appears below that. Before you can see or copy a password, tapping on one, which is helpfully accompanied by a favicon here, invites you to confirm through fingerprint.
The top-right corner’s settings gear icon allows you to enable or disable: While you can easily search for or create a new login and password, you can also: Offer password saving, automatic sign-in, and password alarms for Chrome and Android.
In other words, the transition of Chrome to the Google Password Manager does not significantly alter the end-user experience. The backend was already the same, and the new user interface is more similar to the online version, giving Google one surface to concentrate upgrades on. For instance, the option to enable on-device encryption will soon be available in settings.
As of right now, Chrome 103 is live in while this modification is already live in.
