The LG Wing, the company’s final ambitious smartphone release before closing its mobile division, ended up being somewhat of a farewell hurrah for LG. LG hasn’t given up on the Wing yet, even though the concept didn’t find much success. This week, it released an update that added support for C-Band 5G on the Verizon variant.

The main highlight of System Update 11 for the LG Wing on Verizon is that it supports the carrier’s C-Band 5G network. Although the LG Wing already supported the carriers’ Nationwide and Ultra-Wideband (mmWave) networks, this most recent update increases compatibility for higher speeds. Between Sub6 and mmWave networks, C-Band 5G offers better speeds on a greater scale than the constrained mmWave technology.

Vodafone explains :

This software update gives your smartphone extra access to 5G Ultra Wideband for subscribers of Unlimited plans with 5G access. Customers with price plans that do not include access to 5G Ultra Wideband can update their plan at any time on Verizon.com, the My Verizon app, or the My Biz app. Only few areas of a few cities have access to 5G Ultra Wideband.

The most recent Android security patch and upgrades to the LG app versions are also included in this firmware update.

Notably, this is the only important change in this update. Despite LG having released Android 12 for a few other devices, the LG Wing is still using Android 11. The April 2022 security update is sent through the update, which is always encouraging.
