To compete with Qualcomm, MediaTek announced the Dimensity 9000 as its flagship processor last year. With some minor upgrades, the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 is now providing that chip a mid-cycle refresh. This is what’s new.

With a few significant upgrades, the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 is essentially the same chip that MediaTek unveiled last year.

When comparing overall performance, both alternatives offer a comparable experience. With a GPU that is around 10% quicker, the 9000 gets a CPU boost of about 5%. These are rather small upgrades, but they make the existing Dimensity 9000 and other devices running it a little more future-proof.

The new Dimensity 9000 system-on-chip (SoC) combines an ultra-Cortex-X2 core running at up to 3.2GHz (vs 3.05GHz with the Dimensity 9000), three super Cortex-A710 cores, and four efficiency Cortex-A510 cores in a 4nm octa-core process. Higher than 5% more CPU performance and more than 10% more GPU performance are offered by the new chipset’s integrated Arm Mali-G710 MC10 graphics processor and improved CPU architecture.

The ISP is where the Dimensity 9000 ‘s major modifications begin (image signal processor). The built-in Imagiq 790 ISP provides 4K HDR Video With AI noise reduction for enhanced low-light recordings, as well as 18-bit HDR video recording from three cameras concurrently at up to 320MP. The new ISP, according to MediaTek, can handle 9Gpixels per second.

Additionally, a new network modem that enhances Sub6GHz 5G networks with up to 7Gbps downlink is available. Additionally, 5G/4G Dual SIM Dual Active compatibility is available, allowing simultaneous usage of two networks. Less power should be used thanks to 5G UltraSave 2.0. The newest GNSS standard, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3 are also included in the new chip.

MediaTek Dimensity 9000 can support displays with a refresh rate of up to 144Hz at WQHD resolution or up to 180Hz at FHD resolution.

There is currently no information available regarding which manufacturers of Android smartphones would use the Dimensity 9000 , which MediaTek claims will be released in Q3 2022.
