If prior launch period patterns are followed, Google’s next flagship series won’t be far off. This has inspired us to create a wish list of features we truly expect to see from the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro when they are released.

The Mountain View company lost little time in announcing the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. We are aware that the Pixel 6 makeover may undergo some small alterations; hopefully, this will result in significant advancements. There are currently no specifics on how the next smartphone duo’s second-generation Tensor chip will compare to either its predecessor or the competition, as would be expected.

When the Pixel 6 smartphones eventually hit the market, they satisfied a lot of our earlier wishes. However, a few persistent problems haven’t helped the current Made by Google flagship smartphones, as users have complained about a lot of frequent problems.

IMPROVED FACE UNLOCK AND FINGERPRINT SCANNER

Pixel 7 wish list - Face unlock

The fingerprint scanner on the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro is the main point of contention for most users. We have seen no bigger complaint than this one. In the upcoming Pixel 6a, Google will replace the Pixel 6s scanner with one that, at least based on the official early unboxings, appears to be much faster and, presumably, more accurate.

If a more modern under-display scanner is employed, it must be more dependable for all users of the Pixel 7 series. The process of removing a capacitive fingerprint scanner hasn’t gone quite as Google had intended. For this reason, we would also like to see Face Unlock included with the upcoming Pixel series. It’s perplexing to see Face Unlock functionality integrated into the most current Android 13 Beta versions, but we’d also want to have the choice of employing facial recognition in addition to an in-display fingerprint sensor.

Face Unlock on the Pixel 4 was quick and reliable. Even though we don’t anticipate the capability to fully return without a 3D face scanning camera, we are hopeful that Google’s software-based alternative will finally be fully incorporated into the forthcoming handsets. Even though it wouldn’t be quite as secure, it would still be a wonderful addition. We might ultimately see Face Unlock come back in full, but until then, we can at least hold out hope.

AMPLIFICATION OF CAMERA ZOOM RANGE

It was a wise choice to equip the Pixel 6 Pro with a 4x periscope zoom lens. Super Res Zoom makes photographs seem fantastic even when zoomed in beyond ten times. It has been a remarkable return to form for the Pixel camera. Add in a sprinkle of Google color calibration and post-processing courtesy of Tensor.

Since Huawei’s P30 Pro stunned consumers with its amazing zoom capabilities, telephoto cameras on premium Android devices have progressively improved. The Pixel 6 Pro is the first flagship phone since the Pixel 4 to provide larger zoom controls, breaking a couple years of standard wide-and-ultrawide combinations.

After a significant camera improvement, Google is once again directly competing with the finest in the industry. It would be fantastic to go one step further and give the Pixel 7 Pro an extended hybrid zoom range. Beyond the existing 20x zoom limit on the Pixel 6 Pro, going beyond the 10x optical range would undoubtedly be a good place to start and allow for even better shots.

FOR BOTH DEVICE DISPLAYS AT 120 HZ Although a 120Hz display was at the top of our wish list for the Pixel 6, we also want to see it on the smaller Pixel7 series this time around. Although the ordinary Pixel 6’s 90Hz panel is perfectly adequate, the 30Hz increase has a significant impact on how Android 12 functions. Animations are slightly smoother, which would be a visible improvement for anyone upgrading from an older model or phone with a 60Hz display.

ADHESIVE SCREEN RESOLUTION

pixel 7 wish list - adaptive resolution

Although it’s quite likely that the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will both have QHD displays, it would be great to have the option to change the screen resolution inside the device settings. Undoubtedly, this could be incorporated into Android 13, and if it were to be a Pixel-only feature, it would be warmly received.

The Pixel 7 Pro in particular might benefit from being able to drop to FHD resolution while maintaining a 120Hz refresh rate, however it might also be a fantastic option to have in the Battery Saver and Extreme Battery Saver modes. Along with all of the other adjustments made when these modes are active, dropping to HD resolution might be excellent for extending lifespan to several days.

SPEEDIER WIRED CHARGING

Pixel Stand 2nd Gen charge time remaing message

Last year, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro with 30W charging were released, granting our wish. Unfortunately, even if you purchase the supplementary power brick, you will only get closer to 23W charging with the accessories.

Additionally, the new Pixel Stand only has a 23W maximum output, which is not particularly quick and is even less amazing given that the old 18W power brick charges at generally comparable rates. Thats why faster charging has carried over once again to our Pixel 7 wish list.

A fantastic feature would be 50W wired charging, especially if the Pixel 7 series has big batteries beyond the 4,500mAh mark. Although a charger in retail packaging is unlikely to return, it would be a good choice for people who seek faster top-up times.

AMPLIFICATION OF TENSOR PERFORMANCE

Overall, Google’s initial attempt at a bespoke processor has been fairly good. It’s true that it isn’t the most powerful or quite at the top of the benchmark charts. That doesn’t mean we wouldn’t welcome some additional power from the second-generation Tensor chip.

We would consider it a success if it can come close to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 while still providing the extra processing capability for things like real-time translation and improved picture effects. The Tensor processor struggles significantly in the gaming industry. While most mobile games operate nicely, it would be nice to see a few more frames in the most demanding games. Google is once again on to a winner as long as it masters the fundamentals and outperforms the first-generation Tensor processor.

IDENTICAL SCREEN BEZELS

Due to the usage of consistent display bezels on all sides, the Pixel 5 features the most aesthetically beautiful Pixel display to date. The Galaxy S22 and S22 show that it is possible to have uniform bezels and a decent earpiece speaker, even though this may explain the choice of a somewhat subpar under-display earpiece speaker.

Materials and Android 12 The Pixel 5’s rounded edges and slim bezels really make you feel more comfortable using it than the Pixel 6 series’ boxier aesthetic. In our perspective, shaving down the chin and forehead would be a terrific way to ensuring that Android 13 fits better within the future flagship pair.

SCREEN PROTECTOR APPLIED IN ADVANCE

pre-applied screen protector on pixel 7 wish list

Although not all screen protectors are made equal, we start to wonder why Google hasn’t followed suit when so many other high-end Android phones come with a simple protective cover already applied. Larger market leaders like Samsung, Oppo, OnePlus, and Xiaomi offer this fundamental level of protection for recently released products at a range of price points.

Yes, we can accept that choice if it prevents this because of Google’s broader commitment on using recycled materials. After the debut, finding a high-quality screen protector for the curved screen of the Pixel 6 Pros in particular was a minefield. Although Google has never provided screen protectors that were already applied, the Pixel 7 series would be a wonderful place to start as a high-end offering. A certain degree of out-of-the-box security would also be very welcomed.
