The Chromecast with Google TV is a terrific product, but its one thats definitely revealing difficulties as it ages. One problem is that the Chromecast hasn’t actually seen a system upgrade in almost six months, which is why Google’s most recent tweet feels like such a tease.

Today, the official Made by Google account on Twitter joyfully declared the arrival of an update for Chromecast with Google TV. What might that be? A profile for Android 12?

Nope.

Google is instead introducing a new Assistant function for Chromecast with Google TV. Users may now ask Google Assistant to display their Watchlist, which is one of Google TV’s main features. It’s unclear whether this capability is exclusive to the Chromecast because it seems like it would be simple to implement on other Google TV-compatible streaming devices or TVs. It’s a little surprised that this hasn’t been done before, to be honest.

Whatever the case, it’s certainly strange to see Google touting such a tiny feature in this manner, especially given that there are much more exciting things happening right now. Google revealed earlier this morning that Profiles are now truly launching after a six-month delay. A new device for screensaver content recommendations that Google was planning to introduce over the winter was recently seen being tested by our team. Of course, there will also be the significant system changes that have been missing for so long. Since a few months ago, Android TV 12 has been obtainable, and Android 13 is already in beta.
