Users can hide their online status on WhatsApp. Like you could previously with your Last Seen status, you can now control who may see if you’re online on the messaging app. Some Android beta testers presently have access to the new capability. If all goes according to plan, there should be a wider deployment in the upcoming weeks.

This functionality has been under development by WhatsApp for a while. For the iOS app, it was initially seen in development in early July. Later that month, work on the Android version also started. Last month, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, made the formal announcement regarding WhatsApp’s online status hiding feature. A public release is soon to be announced as it is currently being rolled out to beta testers.

On the same settings page as the last seen status, you can manage your online status once it is available. Last seen and online has replaced the previous name of the last seen settings panel. You must go to WhatsApp Settings andgt; Account andgt; Privacy andgt; Last seen and online to modify your online status option. The same four options for the last saw status are available here as well: Everyone, Nobody, My contacts, and My contacts except

Any WhatsApp user will be able to view your availability if you choose the first option. Whether or not you have the other party’s phone number saved on your device is irrelevant. In essence, this is how WhatsApp currently functions. No one will be able to see that you are online.

You get an additional layer of privacy with the second choice. Your online status can be set up in the same way as when you were last seen. As a result, you can choose to manually choose the contact who can see your online status, allow all of your stored contacts view it, or fully hide it from everyone. You won’t be able to see other users’ last seen or online information if you want to hide such details.
