The most recent Google Search Easter egg honors the upcoming 2022 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, which starts this weekend.
Since 1877, a dog show competition has been held annually by the American Kennel Club, of which the Westminster Kennel Club is a member, and is usually held in Madison Square Garden in New York City. The event usually occurs at the beginning of the year, but in 2021 and 2022 it had to be moved to June and the location was changed from Madison Square Garden to Lyndhurst Mansion.
This Saturday, June 18, is the official start date of this year’s Westminster Dog Show, so Google Search has decided to join in on the excitement by releasing a pawsome new easter egg. Simply enter “Westminster Dog Show” into your search engine to access a page with details about this year’s event.
A large purple button with a paw print on it can be seen near the top of the page. The paw print is animated to show a dog’s paw reaching over to press the button. The Westminster Dog Show easter egg starts with a barking sound effect when you push the button, and a paw then reaches over the page and leaves a paw print on your screen.
Now, a different dog barks and leaves its paw print where you clicked or tapped on your screen. The easter egg paw prints follow you as you scroll up and down the page, allowing you to annotate the full page of Google Search results if you choose. After your fun is over, clicking the close button at the bottom of the screen triggers a wave of water to wipe the paw prints from your screen.
Even while this Google Search easter egg for the Westminster Dog Show is very simple in comparison to other ones, it’s still a fun way to acknowledge the impact that dogs can have on our lives.
The official website will be offering a free stream of the 2022 Westminster Dog Show, which is scheduled to take place from June 18 to June 22.
