A launch event to introduce a new Snapdragon chipset will take place this Friday, May 20, Qualcomm has announced, at least via its social media accounts.

According to a teaser posted on the Chinese social network posted to Weibo , Qualcomm will upgrade its Snapdragon chip portfolio on May 20. The launch event, at least within China, is teased to deliver new products and will reportedly be live-streamed.

What’s new about this gathering? The main anticipation is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 update from Qualcomm, the company’s flagship processor. A new Plus version of that chip would provide a slight GPU improvement, as we’ve seen on previous Plus upgrades, and shift manufacture from Samsung to TSMC. That more recent chip is anticipated to power Samsung’s future Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 foldable smartphones as well as this year’s OSOM OV1 privacy-focused smartphone from the makers of Essential.

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, Qualcomm’s first mid-range chip to receive a rebranding, will probably also be revealed during this week’s presentation. The chip is anticipated for a future launch from Oppo .
