The newest wristwatch from HONOR is the HONOR Watch GS 3, and it actually feels comfortable. As the majority of you are already aware, Huawei produced the HONOR brand for a while. In order for HONOR to have access to Google services and evade the US ban, Huawei was essentially compelled to sell it. Why is that crucial? The HONOR Watch GS 3 is similar to a Huawei wristwatch from a few years ago, in that regard.
That may or may not be a good thing. Huawei has long produced some excellent watches, but after wearing some of the brand’s more recent models, I can’t help but believe that this watch is older than it actually is. A few components of the OS, including the charger, and its notification system, for instance, have a look and feel that is reminiscent of older Huawei watches. Naturally, I’ll go into greater detail below. So let’s explore the HONOR Watch GS 3 and see what it has to offer.
A SLEEK-APPEARING WATCH, THE HONOR WATCH GS 3
” alt=”AH HONOR Watch GS 3 picture 46″>
Advertisement The HONOR Watch GS 3 is a circular smartwatch constructed of metal and plastic. Its right side has two buttons, both of which have a noticeable click. But be aware that the box does not include a rotating crown. This wristwatch also features a speaker and connects to bands using a common connector. In case you’re wondering, you’ll need a 22mm watch band to affix it to this watch.
IT IS AVAILABLE IN THREE DIFFERENT VERSIONS. Having said that, there are three different models of the watch. It comes in Midnight Black, Classic Gold, and Ocean Blue. In other words, these are timepieces that are silver, bronze, and black in color. They each come with a unique strap. The black version has a silicone strap, while the first two have leather straps (blue and brown, respectively). To be very honest, the watch has a great high-end feel altogether. It has a solid feel, and the bezels aren’t overly thick.
” alt=”AH HONOR Watch GS 3 picture 21″>THIS WATCH IS NOT AT ALL SMALL.
Advertisement To be clear, I have been wearing the watch for more than two weeks in the Classic Gold version. For the majority of that period, I wore its leather strap, and I have to tell, it seems incredibly well-made. It hasn’t caused me any problems and doesn’t yet appear worn. But it’s not shocking that. The watch weighs 44 grams and has dimensions of 45.9 x 45.9 x 10.5mm (without the strap). Be aware that the watch is pretty huge.
HONOR PROVIDES THREE VARIABLE STRAP OPTIONS. The watch’s straps have already been discussed; depending on the model you choose, you can select from leather or silicone straps. But in addition to the watch, you also receive a charger. This is a charging stand, or a charging cradle, depending on your preferred terminology. It closely resembles the ones Huawei has been including with its watches. Keep in mind, though, that this does not support wireless charging.

” alt=”WIRELESS CHARGING IS NOT SUPPORTED”>
Advertisement Pogo pins that are included with this charging cradle connect to the watch’s rear. Since the watch will naturally attract itself to this charger, this is not at all a problem. But occasionally you’ll need to clean the connectors. The charging can become suspect when they become soiled. But for all gadgets having pogo pins, it is the case. Regardless matter the watch model you choose, the charging cradle is white. The provided cable is no different.
6 THE DISPLAY IS ABOUT SUFFICIENT. AH HONOR Watch GS 3 picture 11, img17
Does the display work well? Indeed, it is. A 1.43-inch AMOLED screen is present on the HONOR Watch GS 3. Utilizing it feels great thanks to the curved sides of the glass on top of it. You’ll be touching that display constantly because the watch has no rotating crown. Although it does get smeared up, it does so no more frequently than any other display. However, there is some sort of covering on top of it.
Advertisement It is quite sharp, and there are good viewing angles. This panel’s 466 x 466 resolution is excellent for a smartwatch and competitive with the finest available. Additionally, the display’s colors sparkle and the viewing angles are excellent. Here, we’re looking at a 326 PPI. Although not as touch-sensitive as other of the high-end Huawei watches I’ve lately used, the display was still pretty responsive (like the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro ). But since the touch reaction is so good, that won’t be a problem at all. To be completely honest, I don’t have any big concerns about this display.
The performance was excellent, but the software needs improvement. Alt=”AH HONOR Watch GS 3 picture 9″
The Apollo4 CPU powers the HONOR Watch GS 3. Every day, that chip did a really good job. I didn’t experience any lag or similar problems. To be perfectly honest, it was quite sharp. I used the watch for fitness-related activities, reading notifications, controlling music, and monitoring the weather. Prior to using HarmonyOS, Huawei utilized LiteOS, which was compatible with that chip. The similarities to Huawei’s previous watches are therefore not a coincidence.
Advertisement LITEOS IS USED BY THE HONOR WATCH GS 3. You don’t precisely get access to an app store or anything of the type because this is neither Android nor HarmonyOS. You’re stuck using whatever is already on the watch, and most people will find that to be satisfactory. Unless you’re determined to use a third-party fitness service or something similar, HONOR basically includes everything a smartwatch needs on this item. This watch is not appropriate for you if that is the case.
I’ve already noted that this device has two buttons. While the bottom button can be customized, the top button serves as both a menu and a home button. Basically, you can configure it to launch your fitness menu, your music player, or anything else you like.
” alt=”AH HONOR Watch GS 3 picture 5″>ONE OF THE MAIN PAIN POINTS OF LITEOS IS THE NOTIFICATION SYSTEM.
Advertisement On this watch, the alerts are not organized into groups, and you cannot reply to them directly from the watch. That is exactly how it was with Huawei watches when Huawei used LiteOS. On more recent Huawei watches, the notification mechanism is significantly better, albeit it still needs improvement. Given that notifications are one of the primary reasons why people use smartwatches, HONOR must either change this or abandon LiteOS. However, they were practically immediately pushed across from my phone, so I had no problems there.
You can explore a variety of customization possibilities on the watch. For example, you can configure a number of widgets to enable quick access to a variety of functions.
I haven’t experienced any connectivity problems while using the Honor Watch GS 3. Let’s discuss a little bit about connectivity. To link this watch to your phone, you’ll need the HONOR Health app. To begin using the watch, you must first purchase this item. In spite of this, it appears that you won’t be able to link the watch to an iOS device; it only supports Android 8.0 phones. On its official website, HONOR declares that iOS is not supported. Although it says “OTA version available” next to that statement, I was unable to test it because I don’t currently own or use an iOS device.
Advertisement Both Bluetooth 5.0 and WiFi (2.4GHz) are built into this smartwatch. I didn’t experience any significant connectivity troubles. The watch did disconnected twice over my two-week trial period. There were no further problems, so that is important to note. Additionally, it promptly rejoined on its own. In case you’re curious, I utilized it in conjunction with the Pixel 4a and Vivo X60 Pro smartphones.
” alt=”AH HONOR Watch GS 3 picture 23″>THE HONOR WATCH GS 3 IS A GOOD FITNESS / HEALTH COMPANION
In terms of fitness, the HONOR Watch GS 3 has a lot to offer. It features a ton of sports modes and is fully sensorized. An eight-channel PPG heart rate sensor with frequency tracking is included with this watch. The package also has an AI heart rate algorithm. Honor claims that heart rate estimation is over 97 percent accurate. Of course, I was unable to test that, but it did seem to be rather accurate.
Also included is a SPO2 sensor. It performed adequately in terms of SpO2. Although keep in mind that I had some issues with it, the results were comparable to other wearables I’ve examined. Even though the watch was situated pretty well on the hand, I kept having the impression that I was wearing it incorrectly. Nothing was loose about it. Those messages also appeared at unusual times, which was strange. Every time that occurred, I had to start the measurements over. This therefore appears to be a bug.
HONOR HEALTH, THE COMPANY’S APP, IS REALLY USEFUL The business’s app, which also resembles the Huawei Health app remarkably, provides access to a wealth of information. That’s okay because Huawei’s Health app is top-notch. Your workout history and heart health will be visible. Information on SpO2, sleep, and more. In my testing, the sleep tracking wasn’t the most precise, but this is true of almost all wearables. I’d think it’s accurate enough.
HERE ARE MORE THAN 100 WORKOUT MODES. “AH HONOR Watch GS 3 image 24” img21
This watch has many of fitness options available. Over 100 training modes are supported with the HONOR Watch GS 3. 85 custom workout modes and more than 10 professional workout modes are among them. By the way, several of those workouts can be automatically detected by the watch. I’ve only tested the watch while cycling and jogging, and it performed well both times. It’s also important to note how well GPS worked. Here, HONOR has dual-frequency GNSS.
GREAT BATTERY LIFE IS PROVIDED BY THE HONOR WATCH GS 3. Keep in mind that the watch has a 451mAh battery up front. The HONOR Watch GS 3 is a true champ in terms of battery life. We believe that HONOR’s rating of this watch for two weeks of average use is accurate. I was able to get about 9–10 days of battery life during my tests with essentially all sensors activated on a single charge. Since this isn’t exactly standard usage, adding an additional two to four is definitely possible, but only with moderate usage. Many of the features I’ve utilized aren’t worth using by regular users, at least not all at once.
YOU CAN CHARGE IT IN LESS THAN AN HOUR. AH HONOR Watch GS 3 image 1, img22
Charges, what about them? It takes less than an hour to fully charge the watch when you put it on the charging puck that HONOR offers, which is not awful at all. You won’t need to charge it for the rest of the day with just a quick 5–10 minute charge, for sure.
” alt=”AH HONOR Watch GS 3 image 49″>THE SPEAKER IS DEFINITELY LOUD ENOUGH
A speaker and a microphone are present on the HONOR Watch GS 3. So long as the watch is connected to your smartphone, you can theoretically use it to make phone calls. It’s excellent that the speaker does become fairly loud. Even though this is a smartphone speaker, the sound is just adequate for making phone calls. It is simple to utilize it to converse with someone while moving about.
ITS MICROPHONE CAN BE PASSED On the other hand, the microphone is serviceable, but obviously don’t anticipate it to be as good as a phone’s microphone.
A voice assistant is not a feature of the watch. One thing that many of you are likely curious about is whether or not a voice assistant is offered here. Not at all. Alexa, Google Assistant, or any other assistant for that matter won’t be available to you.
” alt=”AH HONOR Watch GS 3 picture 28″>SOME OF YOU MAY FIND THE HONOR WATCH GS 3 WORTH THE MONEY.
Is this watch worth the $219,90 price tag? There are various additional watch variations available, but it all depends on your needs. This watch is unsuitable for you if you require outside apps or wish to reply to messages from your wrist. The notification system also needs improvement.
Consider it if you want a stylish watch that performs well in terms of fitness tracking and has a long battery life. Under 200, that would be a much better deal. However, HONOR occasionally offers discounts on this watch, so you might want to keep an eye out for them at HiHonor.com.
