Amazon has put what appears to be the current Chromecast with Google TV up for pre-order with an availability date of next week, which is a somewhat unusual turn of events.

The Chromecast with Google TV listing in Snow/White on Amazon in the US states that you may place a pre-order for this item and that it will be on sale on May 13, 2022. Notably, that Friday follows the big Google I/O 2022 keynote, at which hardware is anticipated to be unveiled.

By looking at the item model number (GZRNL), we can see that this Chromecast has been around since 2020. The streaming dongle is still being sold by independent merchants on Amazon; no other stores have recently stopped selling it.

In addition to the pre-order modification, the Amazon listing (as shown above) appears to have been modified recently to include User profiles. We have an image that Google previously published of the functionality before it was postponed last year, appearing alongside features like Kids profiles, Voice control, and Recommendations.

Each member of your family can set up a unique profile and have quick access to their watchlist.
Since account switching is not mentioned by any other shops today, its addition must be quite recent.

Google’s 9TO5 If we take these two peculiarities into account, Google may at the very least require retailers to adjust their marketing for the Chromecast with Google TV. The reported Chromecast HD with Google TV, whose packaging for the 2020 edition has already been marked with 4K stickers, may be the cause of this. The updated listings suggest that Google TV user profiles will be available shortly, which would be a good software update.

The hypothesis that Google is modifying the Chromecast is more ambitious, yet we do not think this is the case as there is no further evidence. For instance, increasing capacity from 8GB to 16GB will significantly improve user experience and provide current owners with a quick upgrade. Again, there is no indication that this is the case, but it would help distinguish the 4K model from the future HD model.
