One of the most well-known Android brands in the past, HTC has now faded into obscurity. There has been a premium HTC phone with a metaverse focus on the horizon for a few months, but the Desire 22 Pro, which is firmly in the mid-range, is now allegedly the fruition of that.
By all measures, the HTC Desire 22 Pro is a mid-range smartphone. When an HTC executive teased a high-end gadget that was in the works in March of this year, rumors of a new HTC handset first surfaced. Except for the blockchain-focused Exodus handset, which was released in 2019, HTC hasn’t made a flagship Android phone since 2018.
They both performed fairly poorly.
However, despite this, HTC has continued to provide a limited number of mid-priced and inexpensive handsets. That’s what’s being shown this week, and it appears to be the high-end device HTC had hinted to. The company had previously hinted at today’s launch date in the same context.
With a price tag of $399.00, the HTC Desire 22 Pro is a smartphone with a definite mid-range feature set. It contains a Snapdragon 695 chipset with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, enabling 5G network access. There is a 6.6-inch FHD 120Hz display and Android 12 out of the box, but HTC’s commitment to updating the device is unknown.
On paper, the specifications alone show that the offer is not at all awful. Actually, it isn’t too far from products like Google’s Pixel 5a.
NFC, Bluetooth 5.1, USB-C, IP67 water and dust protection, a 4,250 mAh battery, and 18W charging are also included. A microSD card slot and Qi wireless charging are also included. A 64MP primary sensor and 13MP and 5MP auxiliary cameras for ultrawide and depth sensing, respectively, make up the camera system. There is a 32MP selfie camera up front.
The HTC Desire 22 Pro is already available for pre-order in the UK; however, HTC’s native country of Taiwan will get it as soon as July 1.
WHY IS IT SO SPECIAL? What makes the HTC Desire 22 Pro attractive, then? It is the metaverse for HTC.
The Desire 22 Pro is marketed as the phone that will get you through the rest of the century. HTC specifically refers to it as the ideal partner for the HTC Vive Flow headset, a small VR headset that is totally powered by a connected Android phone.
According to Engadget China , the HTC Desire 22 Pro has a unique Viveverse software that enables users to create virtual avatars and manage their Vive Wallet , which can store cryptocurrency assets and NFTs.
