A new feature that could simplify passing through TSA checkpoints in the US through the use of Digital ID storage may be coming to the new Google Wallet. More specifically, the recently released software may eventually hold digital copies of identification cards that have been given by the government. At least according to the code strings for the Google Play Services feature spotted .

Mishaal Rahman, who discovered the code fragments earlier this week, is awarded credit for the finding.

These excerpts indicate that the functionality will support a variety of official government identification types. including ID cards issued by the state, such as drivers licenses. mainly with the goal of enabling people to pass past TSA with only their phone.

Advertisement Digital ID cards do not always function everywhere or for everything, even in GoogleWallet. The new storage choice has now been added to Google Wallet’s existing lineup of features. Specifically, waiting in line with tap-to-pay devices, boarding passes, immunization cards, and loyalty cards. However, they might not always be applicable.

Only a small number of airports actually accept digital ID cards, whether they are stored in Google Wallet or not, according to the source. That is also true of Apple Wallet, one of the apps that has already included the feature.

Among them are Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI) (DFW). Gulfport Biloxi International Airport (GPT), Harry Reid International Airport (LAS), and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport connect these two locations (ATL). Additionally, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Miami International Airport, Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport, Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport, and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport complete out the list (DCA).

Additionally, only travelers who have TSA Precheck are permitted where it is available. The Google Wallet app will reportedly make this clear and note that it only functions at specific TSA checkpoints.

If the still-new initiative is effective, more checkpoints will surely be introduced in the future. But whether or not that will actually happen is still up in the air. or if there will be any other uses for digital ID cards. If that’s the case, the new function might help Google become one of the top financial apps available.
