As a result of the rise in work from home (WFH) during COVID-19, Google reduced the quality of Ambient mode on Chromecast and Assistant Smart Displays in April 2020. These adjustments are now being reverted .
Google is undoing the bandwidth-saving adjustments it made to the rotation speed of Ambient mode photo slideshows more than two years ago on Chromecast, Nest Hub, and other Smart Displays. Manual guidelines were furthermore offered:

These adjustments have all put a burden on local internet resources, slowed down connections, and caused dropped video conversations and frozen screens.
