As a result of the rise in work from home (WFH) during COVID-19, Google reduced the quality of Ambient mode on Chromecast and Assistant Smart Displays in April 2020. These adjustments are now being reverted .

Google is undoing the bandwidth-saving adjustments it made to the rotation speed of Ambient mode photo slideshows more than two years ago on Chromecast, Nest Hub, and other Smart Displays. Manual guidelines were furthermore offered:

On the Google Home app, you may always alter how quickly photo slideshows in Ambient mode advance.
Launch the Google Home application.
2. Tap and hold the tile on your device.
3. Click Settings in the top right corner.
4. Select Ambient mode for Chromecast devices. Select Photo Frame under Displays.
5. Scroll down and choose your favorite pace under Slideshow Speed (5s, 10s, 30s, 1m, 3m, 5m, 10m)
Google decreased the quality of Hangouts, YouTube resolution presets, and Nest Cam video feeds two years ago. This assessment included the entire sector:

These adjustments have all put a burden on local internet resources, slowed down connections, and caused dropped video conversations and frozen screens. In the coming days, we’ll be making improvements to reduce internet usage and maintain connectivity in response to the global call to prioritize internet bandwidth for working and learning.
