...and he did. All the way over to Pixel Girl Presents.

We first caught wind of PGP when we were making old school pixel icons for the OS 9 operating system. Then the OS X operating system exploded all over the place, and where pixel graphics were once the standard, now full resolution scalable icons are the norm. Pixel Girl was on the ball and quickly became one of the best places to get OS X icons. (and still is) A set of our icons even got mentioned in a real life magazine thanks to her site.
Recently she was kind enough to include our latest iphone wallpaper in her desktop gallery. Thanks!

We haven't had a ton of extra time these days. This weblog suffers.
In the interest of showing what we've been doing with a portion of our squandered free time, we present to you a new illustration we've been working on. It's current state remains: unfinished. But it's time to set it loose into the world.
The illustration can also be downloaded:
@ 1440 pixels wide
As we've said, it's unfinished. Also, despite being available in desktop format, the illustration doesn't really work all that well as a wallpaper or background. There's just too much going on to the right side, where your icons would sit. (on a mac, actually works quite well on a pc) But we need to take a step or two back and let this puppy breathe.
However, it does look pretty nice when printed out. Now, if you would just print out a million of these you could wallpaper your life.
Higher and/or different resolution versions available upon request.

Well here it is. The new and improved clunkyrobot.com. Thanks for coming back to us after our short break. Being gone was... weird. There'd be all this stuff I wanted to talk about, I had to actually interact with other human beings. If you'll notice I still made some posts below even though there was nobody around to read them... heh.
huh, what's that?
Well, yeah. It looks exactly the same. Most of the upgrades are behind the scenes. And besides, over the past few months I had finally got this dump looking exactly how I wanted it to look, so I didn't want to change it just for the sake of changing it. But that felt a little... I don't know, unfulfilling. So I made a new desktop, and banner.

Binary Death Spiral
So far people have been complimentary about our animation. Thanks. One of the comments we get the most is that people want to be able to read all the text that pops up in the animation. We appreciate that too, I think it means people are interested in what's going on.
The good thing is that all the text is real, it all says something. Like in the launch scene, all the text boxes that pop up next to the rocket are real specifications for a titan II rocket with two stages, and a capsule payload. But for the most part the text isn't supposed to be legible.
There are a few parts where it might be beneficial to read the text. For instance, when the boy robot is in space, he writes some poems that he sends to the girl robot. Each poem is supposed to be inspired by the cosmological images he observes. And each of those images has been digitally painted by us in photoshop.
Here is the quasar he sees, and the dorky poem associated with it, presented as a desktop in two formats:

We finished up the animation for the short play festival at Dad's Garage. It opens this Friday the 20th. We're gonna go see it.
C-dub and I have been working every night at the 70-30 Productions office. Mack and Neal from 70-30 helped us out with a lot of the animation. If it wasn't for those guys C-dub and I would be sweating this animation right up to opening night.
I'll post a link to a web version of the animation after the show opens. Until then, here is a desktop to celebrate the completion of the animation. An image from the "Launch Scene."

Want to know about "Williams Street" culture?
We're jerks.
We (The 70-30 Productions crew) have an article coming out in a local magazine here in Atlanta about the new cartoon we're making. The article's author, Justin, hung out with us while we moved into our new office. We got to know him pretty good, he's a good guy.
Well for the article they asked us to create a graphic for a "full page spread." I thought that was normally taken care of by the Magazine's art department. But since it's for our article, about our show, we were excited to work on it.
In the cartoon, the main character sends out a postcard to promote his plan for world domination/destruction. A "direct mailer" as they call it in the business.
We decided it would be a great idea to have the promotional postcard as our spread. This is what it looks like (complete with intentional grammatical errors):

(grab the 1600px wide desktop version)
Anyway for various reasons, it was rejected. Maybe they didn't get it, or thought the grammatical errors were real errors. Or maybe the Chairman Mao joke bothered them... whatever. In it's place they suggested having the main character's "Head floating over a colored background." Hmm. sounds lame.
Here is what my boss had me send them. Heh, I love my job...
also did I mention that we're jerks?

![]()
(grab the 1600px wide desktop version)
Anyway for various reasons, it was rejected. Maybe they didn't get it, or thought the grammatical errors were real errors. Or maybe the Chairman Mao joke bothered them... whatever. In it's place they suggested having the main character's "Head floating over a colored background." Hmm. sounds lame.
Here is what my boss had me send them. Heh, I love my job...
also did I mention that we're jerks?

...and he did.

C-dub and I have been working every night at the 70-30 Productions office. Mack and Neal from 70-30 helped us out with a lot of the animation. If it wasn't for those guys C-dub and I would be sweating this animation right up to opening night.
I'll post a link to a web version of the animation after the show opens. Until then, here is a desktop to celebrate the completion of the animation. An image from the "Launch Scene."
