ClunkyCar LIVES!

Yesterday, The clunkyrobot, and his fiance, ventured into the harrowing jungle known as Used Auto Sales.

We first pulled into a chrysler dealership, and met a man who listened to us little, but spoke to us a great deal. He spoke so much, and listened so little, we had to stop him in mid sentence to tell him we were leaving, I'm still not sure if he heard us.

We drove across the street, and bought our new car.

A 1999 Mazda Protege.
The asking price was $12,000, we talked them down to $8,344.

I was stunned, we had them talked down to $9,500, which as far as my research tells me, is a decent price for this car, maybe a little marked up. We just kept telling them we were going to have to sleep on it, and we weren't even playing hard ball, we seriously just wanted to think about it. This drove them nuts, they finally said, "Give us a number, anything, a number that will make you drive home tonight in this car."

We said... "Um... (sheepishly) $8,000"
Our sales rep, the very cool Travis, came back from a talk with his boss, a piece of paper in hand with $8,344 written on it.

we said... "uh... yeah"
and the rest is used car sale history!
Look for a spicey new clunkyrobot Mazda Protege Desktop soon!

We highly recommend Stone Mountain Toyota for their undying efforts to put us in a used car we felt we got a super-fair deal on. We couldn't have done it without our tough-as-nails, and not a little bit smarmy spiritual advisor Chuck, who kept us grounded, thanks dude. Clunkyrobot is now accepting submissions for a name to cristen our new car with.

How many cars have you been through since 1999? You go through cars like poo from a pigs butt.

Congrats on the new driving digs. Hook it up with some shocks and dangly-things from the headliner, and put about 6 pairs of rear-view mirrors on it like mexican lowrider 70's style!

since 1999, I personally have "owned" one car, and one scooter. So I'm not exactly sure were your poo comment is coming from, other than a pig's poo hole.. hahahahhehehahHAHA...
(a-hem)

Our new car is a symbol of educated consumerism, we worked hard to get the price we thought we deserved, and the auto dealer eventually agreed.

And even though it was a lengthy proccess, and quite tiring, I never felt frustrated, I never felt like we were being jerked around. All in all, a very positive experience.

Mazda makes a sweet ride. Your experience sounds better than my recent car buying fiasco.

MICAH DONT DRIVE CUZ WE GOT HIS KEEEEEYYYYSSS

Well, The scooter musta musted up my memories. There are tons of them down here. Everytime I sit on my porch with a pitcher of iced tea and a flyswatter, smiling at the sun, I see them buzzing around like gators around a pond swimmer.
